Privacy
Privacy
The short version: no tracking, analytics or advertising cookies, and our forms only keep what you choose to send.
Cookies
We don’t use tracking, analytics or advertising cookies, and we don’t load anything from other companies when you view a page — fonts and files are all served from this site. The only cookie we set is a session cookie for the site owner’s admin area, which is only sent on admin pages.
Page counts
Each guide keeps a simple count of how many times it has been viewed, so we can show popular guides. The count is just a number — it isn’t linked to you.
Our forms
When you use “Was this helpful?”, “Report a problem” or “Suggest a guide”, we store what you send, the date, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address that we use only to stop spam and repeat votes. Your email address is optional; if you give it we use it only to reply. We delete reports and suggestions once we’ve dealt with them.
Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting keeps standard web server logs — such as the page requested, the time, your IP address and browser type — for security and to fix problems.
Links to other websites
Links to other websites go through a short redirect on this site (/go/…). When you follow one we count the click — the date, which link and which of our pages it was on — but nothing that identifies you. Once you arrive on another website (for example GOV.UK, the NHS or Amazon.co.uk) that site’s own privacy policy applies. Amazon may use cookies to record that you came from us so that any qualifying purchase can be credited to us.
